In America The early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the category of child prodigies. These traits were natural to a person born in Ireland and with talented parents and close family. Maureen entered this loving haven within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons, born in Dublin, is the woman who raised her. She was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons came 2nd in the family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and was a pro in athletics. This passion and her gift for performing was remarkable. That was evident that she was the winner of every Feis for theatre and drama the Irish had to provide. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she continued to pursue her dream of opera and classical singing and theater.
